2008 May > Sri Lankan New Year

The Sinhalese community in Guelph celebrated their Sri Lankan New Year on April 13th. This is the most important date in Sri Lanka's cultural calendar. There was a brief lamp lighting ceremony to start things off, followed by a grand feast of Sri Lankan food: spicy curries, rice made with coconut milk and sweet delicious desserts. Many Sri Lankans are here as PhD students in agriculture at the University of Guelph.
